Our firm is rapidly growing, and we are seeking a self-motivated person who wants to join a dynamic, evolving company. We are currently seeking to fill a full-time position for an experienced Commercial Lines Manager to lead and develop our commercial lines department. This role combines strategic leadership, client relationship management, and operational oversight to a team of 20+ to drive growth and maintain our high service standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of commercial lines support staff.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to grow the department.
- Review complex commercial lines coverages.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor department profitability and establish performance metrics.
- Collaborate with advisors on new business opportunities and retention strategies.
- Participate in client meetings for complex accounts as needed.
- Drive operational efficiency through process improvement and technology adoption.
- Work in conjunction with the VP of Business Development to assist in developing the technical skills of non-validated advisors.
- Responsible for monitoring and improving performance levels of all team members within the commercial lines department.
- Responsible for hiring and firing of employees as needed, as determined by capacity and overall performance of the department.
- Responsible for onboarding and establishment of training program for all new employees within the department.
- Determine appropriate levels of compensation for all team members and deliver compensation packages to employees in accordance with employee’s performance, attendance, tenure, etc. on an annual basis.
- Organize and lead monthly department meetings during which department business is discussed and addressed.
- Participate in monthly meetings with Agency President to provide update on department results and personnel.
- Participate in monthly Department Director meetings, including an update on department results and personnel.
- Present department update to entire staff at quarterly team meetings as needed.
- Evaluate book of business capacity for all department members. Restructure as needed in conjunction with client needs, needs of department, capacity availability, and restrictions.
- Determine new business flow to ensure all team members are working within their capacity and the growth needs and goals of the department are fully supported.
- Maintain relationships with commercial lines insurance carriers. Evaluate existing relationships and seek out new carrier partners and implement those new relationships where needed.
- Monitor premium growth and loss ratios with existing carriers.
- Involvement in high level client issues where needed. This can involve accounts with a high priority or complicated service need.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field
- 7+ years of commercial lines experience
- Active Property & Casualty license
- Proven management experience in an insurance agency setting
- Strong understanding of commercial lines products, markets, and coverages; insurance products and usage with adequate knowledge of quoting procedures and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain, and onboard assigned clients and prospects
- Proficiency in Applied Epic or similar agency management systems
- Track record of successful team leadership and development
- Professional designations such as CIC, CPCU, ARM, etc.
- Experience with multiple carrier relationships
- Knowledge of Kentucky and Florida insurance markets
- Experience with large/complex business accounts
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building capabilities
- Ability to multi‐task and handle heavy workload with minimal supervision; able to self-check for accuracy; and independently research and analyze
- Ability to problem solve and think creatively to help solve high level needs of the department
- Demonstrate experience meeting deadlines and working with shifting priorities
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues, interpret complex information, and respond appropriately both to team members and clients
- Working knowledge of Excel to create, navigate and manipulate reports, Word, PowerPoint and E‐mail applications
